A New Category

I got labeled today when my gmail account crashed today.  It seems that I'm one of "a small subset of users".  Now I've been in a small subset before (ironically 9 years ago to the day) but the users part is new.

Defaults Are For Dummies

I've been working on designing a website in software designed a specific type of organization.  The purpose of the software is allow people with limited web experience to put together a website quickly and easily.

As a result, there are a LOT of defaults that I can't change.  Having designed a couple of web-pages in the past, I'm finding this to be very frustrating.  I'm limited by what they will allow and am feeling very frustrated by the lack of flexibility in areas that I know could be better.

In the long run, it will be better for the end users, but right now it feels like building codes - stupid rules to prevent idiots from hurting themselves and others.

2 Fun Toys

I found a couple of cool toys on the internet.  The first is my favorite:  plant a flag anywhere on the earth, click "dig here" and it will show you where you would end up if you dug a hole straight through the earth.  I was surprised to find that it wasn't China.  Actually, I'd end up in the ocean, off the south-west corner of Australia.

The other is a tracker that lets you know where you pass through if you walked a straight line from any point on the planet.

On Facebook Round 2

I discussed some of my concerns about facebook here.  However, this video sums up my concerns quite nicely (although fortunately I have no concerns about photos like those ever showing up!).

Blog Issues

I've lost 2 posts in the last several days.  The titles are there but the body of the text seems to have vanished.  Typepad has made some changes behind the scenes, in how the posts are created.  Some, like photo alignment and text options look pretty good.  Others, like the new spell check, are less than user friendly.  These changes were applied to my blog (apparently it is being rolled out in groups) yesterday afternoon. 

As far as I know, that is when the the posts disappeared.  There are also all kinds of weird glitches, like the default for starting each post is in the body, and when I click into the title area, it bounces me into the body for the second time.  It only "takes" on the third try.  I have also lost the ability to use bullet points.  Most of this will probably get worked out in the coming weeks so I'm not really making an issue of it.

I did open a help ticket (request for assistance) regarding the missing posts, but I think they are probably gone.  We will see what happens.  So far I am just waiting but one of my biggest pet peeves is when stuff doesn't work like it should. 

I Won The Lottery!

No, seriously - I did!  I have won the Free Email Lottery Draw in London, or something like that*.  It is incredible!   It's like 925,000 pounds or something (which is just over 1.8 million dollars).

What is really amazing is that I didn't enter.  Somehow they magically determined my email address, entered it and mine won.  They don't even know who I am!  And claiming my winnings is so simple - all I have to do is email them back with all of my bank information so they can direct deposit it!  I guess I should let everyone know that we will be in Hawaii for the foreseeable future and it was nice knowing you!

Although, it seems odd that a banking agency doesn't know how to spell fiduciary.  I'm sure it was just a typo.
