Beauty in the Micro

I needed to do something quiet and contemplative today.  It has been a tough week and overnight Thursday was brutal on the squad.  I finally went to bed at 8:30am for a couple of hours and then I headed out to a local park.  The goal was to look for beauty in the micro.  I have a new camera to play with and this was a good opportunity to focus on small and beautiful details.

Hiking

A week ago we went on a fantastic little hike through the fallen leaves.  There was a crystal clear lake and views of a local airshow.

I love hiking in the fall - the air is so crisp and is it usually cool enough to tackle a slightly more challenging one and still be fairly comfortable.

Rain Showers Bring May Flowers

A couple of weeks ago the family went to our local botanical gardens.  The spring flowers were in full bloom and it was nice to be outside and enjoy them.

Wawayanda

We went on a hike last weekend.  It was such a nice day and we went somewhere we've never gone - Wawayanda.

Hike

It was a great day for the first hike of the year.  I thought it would be too cold but instead the weather was perfect.  Hopefully it was the start of a wonderful hiking season.

Group Camping

This past weekend, we went on a group camping trip.  We had 19 people, 10 kids and 9 adults, spread across 4 sites, on a lake. 

To say that we had a great time would be an understatement.  The fact that we had 3 days in a row without rain is amazing in itself.

Cardboard Box Oven

After seeing one of these things in action last year, I've been waiting for an opportunity/excuse to build a cardboard box oven.  The fact that it worked was a source of amazement for me, as I watched batch after batch of fresh baked cookies come out of one.

The hardest thing was getting a box the right size but after putting out the word in a couple of different directions, I had two boxes about the right size to start with.  This one is 18.5" x 14" x 15.5".
