Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to eat at Cactus Willie's. It has been years since I ate at an all you can eat buffet, so this was an almost-new experience. The food was okay, not exceptional, but considering the price, it shouldn't have been. Perhaps it was the variety, or the all you can eat aspect, but I found it a little overwhelming. We could eat as much as we wanted, go back as many times as we wished. (The next table over dryly observed that it is nice to have such a walk between courses - we were seated as far from the food as you could get - and still be in the resturant.)
If it were later in the day, I would probably go on a small side trip on the excesses of the American lifestyle. More food was thrown away uneaten from our table than some people in the world eat in weeks. But I digress....
Now the desserts were excellent. The byline for Catus Willie's is "Steak Buffet & Bakery", and boy do they get the bakery part right. I can't speak for the steak, husband - care to comment? But the desserts were good. It is hard to mess up ice cream, so we'll skip that except to say that you could make banana splits in bowls that were prelined with sliced bananas. They had cookies, they had brownies, they had pudding, and jello and small cups full of combinations of these things. And they had cake, and more than one kind. I had a vanilla/chocolate marble cake with chocolate frosting and peanut butter frosting filling! Did I mention that you can eat as much as you want?
If you really want to, you can have dessert first, or perhaps only. Would I have the nerve to do that?
