Silence

It was the middle of the night, the true point where it is darkest.  Most people don't spend time awake at this time and fewer spend it outside.

Sound Asleep to Crazy in 8 MInutes

I hate dealing with crazy people, but even more-so in the middle of the night.  The call was for an injured party at the police dept.  That can mean anything from a walk-in assault victim to a perp who got maced.

Flu

I've spent a lot of time this week trying to sleep off the flu.  Some kind folks covered my shift tonight on the squad, for which I am grateful, although I'm a little upset I missed the call with the attack cat.  Not kidding.  Maybe it's a good thing I wasn't there, it would probably have been the 3rd time I refused to get out of the rig for an "unsafe scene".  And ironically I sound like I'm trying cough up a hairball.

Frankenstein

The call came in at midnight for an overdose.  En-route the updates did not look good at all.  Upon arrival the patient was breathing about 4 times a minute, not good.

Status Update

The following was a post-call discussion between my partner and myself.

Him:  So severe abdominal (pain)?
Me:  Yup, she rated it 7 out of 10.
Him:  It got worse on the way?
Me:  Yup, I knew something must have changed because she stopped texting.

Front Page

It's always fun to open the paper and find yourself on the front page - especially when you don't expect it.  Actually, Eldest Child spotted it before I did.  I'm the blond and yellow blur, front left.  I went on the photographer's website and he has the most excellent shot of my behind.  Glad they didn't print that.

Partners In Crime

I attended a class earlier this week called SCAN, or Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect.  It offered some free CEU's so I registered.

Non-Compliant

Live is busy and it is easier to do nothing.  But there is nothing so frustrating as seeing people with life altering illnesses who don't do what they need to in order to be healthy.T

Waiting for the Boom

We get a large amount of calls for "the smell of gas", which is usually vague and most often unfounded.  They are routine and I don't think much of them other than an easy way to rack up the call numbers.

People Are Slow

Every year I have to take a state required class as an EMT.  It takes about 2 hours to complete and is generally a dull power-point presentation led by a speaker.  Last year there was a problem with the accreditation of the class and we all had to take it a second time a few months later.
